Do you Believe

Do you believe that nothing can go faster then light? A few days ago someone was horrified to find that a team of scientists discovered a particle they claimed could go at FTL (faster then light)  speeds. The problem is all of modern physics is based on the assumption that nothing can exceed light speed all the way down to the theory of relativity. the first test sported the original find but the second one challenged it now new tests are being prepared we'll see what comes of it. Since then I have had several discussions with people about it and I wounder what you guys thought about it ? I've included links to the  original find the first and second test in that order.

  1. *exhales sharply and coughs several times*....wow.... that's, wow....hmm. I read a fictional book about that, that's creepy, to read a fictional book and have the weirdest, most fictional part be being tested for accuracy. hmm, wow.

  2. ho did I for get to menchen that if something can go FTL you ether have time travel possible or another foundation of science would have to go

  3. Yeah, that was in the book. I think that this will all come to nothing.

  4. If we have classic mechanics that works well to explain thing at the size of large object, and relativity/ quantum mechanics to explain things that are small and very fast but bellow c, why not have another set of rules to approximate motion as we reach approach finite mass and c+ speed? I think the idea is quite reasonable. I do not believe it would allow backward time travel.
As side note c+ speeds could help explain things like Star light making to the earth from Stars since creation. It could be reasonable alternative or supplement the created with appearance of age viewpoint.
I think that RATE http://www.icr.org/rate/ research: higher decay rates I believe already might question the foundation of modern science in a similar and related manner.

  5. YES!!! MWHAHAHAHA!!! And now you know how the time paradox was created in the first place Rennuke! The scientists are going to initiate the time paradox in one of their FTL experiments and thus begins the paradox.....(we have actually had this conversation :

Anyway seriously now, I read this article in the paper, and my first thought was, "cool now we can have those jumpships from the BT universe", but I think that we as humans are being awfully presumptuous to think that we can say, "Everything MUST fit the Theory of Relativity and into our conception of it." I mean if everything is relative does that not make the absolute statement that "everything is relative" void? Before the theory of relativity Newton's laws of motion held sway. I think it would be an insult to past discoverers if we ignored the possibility that our present scientific laws have flaws as well. (After all the more we learn, the more we learn we have more to learn.

  7. *groin* This subject is starting to get REALLY boring. (the men have been going round and round in our hows about it.) hehe

  8. interesting StrawHat I had herd that before but it is cool to see it sported by sciences. I wonder were we would be now if scientists had never lost creation as a bace...?
don't worry about THE THIMBLE's comment thats just her code for intelligent. :)

  10. We can only dream where it would be. But we can also work to take it there. It is so sad that man desires to be autonomous and has thus missed so many blessing both spiritual and temporal. Rennuke and @8108ebcfc64c5b47bdfb4ff7b84dff8b  Thanks.
