Well Let us begin.

I’m sorely tempted to start with something completely different . Like all the resends I think Obama’s election was good for America. But I will resist the desire for now.  And Instead will open the table with comparing the Roman republic with the USA’s current government . I start with comparing how both counters started a republic and the decade in to a democracy  one wonders if we to will collapse it to anarchy  and be saved by emperors (think they’re excepting job applications for that?) anyway both originally started as multiple entities and then merged in to one and then expanded in to barbarian  territories say How about some input at this point.J  “To be continued”

  1. Ahhhhhh!!!! Now we can stroke the creative genius joined in this blog!
    Ahem!
I agree on the point that the Romans and the Americans had many similarities.(e.g- A love for independence, A utilitarian spirit, and a hardworking quality,) But they also had many differences, the largest being that the American spirit was more deeply rooted in religious morals;(we have the Massachusetts puritans and pilgrims to thank for that!) While the Romans constituted more of a superiority complex, and a loyal lower-class made up strong, homegrown farmers.I am not denying the Romans strengths but also you must look at some of,much ignored, weaknesses. Also something else one must look at is the socio-political structure, the Romans revolution against the Etruscans was as one that was meant from the beginning to conquer the Etruscans, and be a conquest not independence; plus it was mainly a revolution for the ruling class. The Americans were revolting not to conquer, but to be free;and it was a revolution for all classes(it gave freedom to all!)
I agree with you that our both our republics are similar(both early and latter!)The early republics for both the countries were made in order to protect the citizenry, give military leadership, and give citizens a voice. Now the later republics are much the same as well; we both have a sedentary government, major corruption, rampant immorality, and it just lacks any responsibility or morality.(of course the governments could not have become this way unless the people had allowed them!for example, the plebeians gave up many of their natural rights during the Punic War."A person that will trade freedom for security will get neither and deserves none!"quote Benjamen Franklin.
As to how the government will go I can only guess! I believe we will continue to go down the Roman path, and fall to charismatic demagogues who will lead to devastation. But on the other hand it is most definitely possible that a the public may wake up to their conscious,or we might get another Revival, and then the government might get back on track! With good leaders.
('-') I guess that is our job rennuk.( and maybe Jen the judge, Jess the speech extraordinaire!)
May hap you could continue on the influence of America's annexation of the west( I confess to a lacking of knowledge there'_'!)I could do a segment on the Punic wars influence on the republic of Rome if you want?
P.S have the any other mutual acquaintances expressed a interest in joining?e.g-Bond?Dusty?your younger brother?

  3. Gryphon I’d be glad to do a segment on the western expansion and I think it would accented nicely buy the Punic wars but I think that it would be closer to the Roman expansion in to northern Gaul and southern Germania .
